Solaris starts delivery of 137 hydrogen buses to Bologna

Solaris has delivered the first 37 of 137 hydrogen-powered buses for use in Bologna and Ferrara, Italy.

The Urbino 12 buses, delivered to Emilia-Romagna transport operator TPER, mark the first batch of vehicles to arrive in the region off the back of a 2023 order.

Once complete, the fleet will be made up of two configurations of the bus model: 70 three-door for urban routes and 67 two-door for city and suburban journeys.

Powered by a 70kW fuel cell and 37.5kg of hydrogen storage, the buses offer zero-emission and quiet operation.

The deployment comes off the back of a partnership between TPER, city authorities and Solaris, with the vehicles’ investment co-financed by EU funds from Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and TPER’s own funding.

This latest delivery adds to the more than 430 Solaris hydrogen buses on European streets.
