Sirius and Marathon to develop hydrogen-powered VTOL infrastructure

Sirius Aviation and Marathon Group Australia have partnered to enhance hydrogen storage and infrastructure at Australian airports.

The partnership will leverage the Sirius Jet, a hydrogen-powered vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft designed by Designworks, a BMW Group company.

The two companies will set out to deploy hydrogen storage and refuelling for “zero-emission airports,” including mobile hydrogen transportable liquidation and refuelling units.

The Sirius Jet will be used for various applications, such as cargo transport and air ambulance services. The collaboration will also focus on renewable energy synergy, ensuring “regional integration of hydrogen production with solar and wind energy projects.”

“Partnering with Marathon Group is a major leap in transforming aviation with hydrogen technologies,” explained Alexey Popov, CEO of Sirius Aviation. “Our efforts will set new benchmarks in sustainability and significantly reduce carbon emissions.”

In April (2024), Pure Hydrogen leased a 4,000m2  site in Queensland, Australia, to develop a green hydrogen micro hub at Archerfield Airport.

Pure Hydrogen wants to create a number of “CAPEX light micro hubs” that produce hydrogen using green electricity from the grid. H2 View understands that the hydrogen produced at Archerfield will power commercial drone companies operating at the airport looking to decarbonise.
