Siemens Gamesa and Siemens Energy will combine their ongoing wind-to-hydrogen developments as part of an effort to decarbonise the economy and solve the climate crisis.
The two companies today (13th Jan) announced the partnership, through which they hope to develop an innovative solution that fully integrates an electrolyser into an offshore wind turbine as a single synchronised system to directly produce green hydrogen.
As part of its role in the partnership, Siemens Gamesa will adapt its development of the “world’s most powerful” turbine, the SG 14-222 DD offshore wind turbine, to integrate the electrolysis system into the turbine’s operations.
By leveraging Siemens Gamesa’s knowledge and experience with offshore wind, electric losses are reduced to a minimum, while a modular approach ensures a reliable and efficient operational set-up for a scalable offshore wind-to-hydrogen solution.
