Siemens Energy wins 100MW electrolyser contract for German hydrogen hub

The Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub (HGHH) has commissioned Siemens Energy to supply a 100MW proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser plant.

The German consortium, including Luxcara and Hamburger Energieweke, aims to produce around 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen once commercial operations begin in 2027. The Moorburg site received Important Project of Common European Interest status in February (2024) from the EU.

Under the contract, Siemens Energy will provide six units of its electrolyser model to form the 100MW plant – expected to begin construction next year (2025) at its new gigafactory in Berlin and assembled at their Mühlheim site.
