Siemens completes Bavarian hydrogen train test runs

Siemens Mobility last week (September 15) completed the first test runs of its Mireo Plus H hydrogen-powered train in Bavaria, Germany.

Supported by the State of Bavaria, the two-car trainset is planned to enter passenger service in mid-2024 on routes between Ausberg and Füssen and Augsburg and Peissenberg on Bayerische Regiobahn’s (BRB’s) rail network.

With pilot operations of the train planned to continue for 30 months, the trials could determine the use of the energy carrier in trains on additional routes in the region. The tests come after Siemens and Bavaria signed a development partnership in 2021.
