Shell on Friday (December 2) opened up on the closure of its UK hydrogen refuelling stations in an exclusive H2 View webinar, noting operational challenges and lack of use.
It had been reported this year (2022) that Shell had closed three of its UK hydrogen refuelling stations in Cobham, Gatwick, and Swindon, which it had set up with the ITM Power joint venture, Motive Fuels.
Despite no official word from Shell at the time of the closures during the summer, Motive in a statement said, “The sites are not performing satisfactorily and the footprint available is too small to accommodate upgrade for larger vehicles and future technology which has led us to taking a decision to close the sites.
