Sicily, Italy could be home to a new hydrogen valley following a joint proposal from Sasol and Sonatrach Raffineria Italiana (SRI) to the regional council.
According to the resolution of the Sicilian Regional Council n. 47 of 29 January 2021, the Council has nominated Sicily to be the seat of the National High Technology Centre for Hydrogen (Hydrogen Valley).
The concept of a “hydrogen valley” is a designated geographical area – a city, a region, an island or an industrial cluster – where several hydrogen applications come together into an integrated hydrogen ecosystem that consumes a significant amount of hydrogen, improving the economics behind the project.
