RWE and Westfalen to launch German hydrogen refuelling station in 2025

RWE and Westfalen Group will construct a hydrogen refuelling station at the Emsland gas-fired power plant in Germany, which will begin operating next year (2025).

Set to provide up to 500kg of hydrogen per day to tanks, passenger and utility vehicles from 2025, the station will source its green hydrogen from RWE’s 14MW electrolyser in Lingen, which produced its first kilogrammes in September (2023).

A hydrogen refuelling station for commercial vehicles will be built at the main gate of RWE’s Emsland plant, whilst a filling station for tanker vehicles will also be constructed, although it won’t be open to the public. H2 View understands that the first hydrogen sales will be tendered, allowing companies with a purchase agreement to collect hydrogen with tank trailers and transport it to their sites.
