Rolls-Royce is set to enter the hydrogen production market with the acquisition of a 54% stake in German electrolysis stack specialist, Hoeller Electrolyzer.
Under the new acquisition, Hoeller Electrolyzer’s technology will form the basis of a new range of mtu (Rolls Royce’s Power System Business Unit) electrolysers, with the companies saying development work is already underway.
H2 View understands in 2023, the mtu electrolyser will go into operation at Rolls Royce’s microgrid Validation Centre in Friedrichshafen, Germany, to demonstrate how an electrolyser will fit into the overall microgrid system, with an initial customer project already planned for 2024.
