Rio Tinto is looking to decarbonise its Yarwun alumina refinery in Gladstone, Australia with hydrogen.
The global mining company today (August 24) inked a letter of intent with Sumitomo for the effort that will also look at Yarwun as a location for a new hydrogen plant to produce hydrogen for the recently announced Gladstone Hydrogen Ecosystem.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development Steven Miles said Gladstone has already welcomed the partnership, stating that it presents a great opportunity for the region and for Queensland.
