H2 Green Steel has signed multi-year agreements to offtake iron ore pellets from both Vale and Rio Tinto which will be used as a feedstock at its hydrogen-based steel mill in Sweden.
Iron ore pellets along with H2 Green Steel’s own green hydrogen from its electrolyser facility come as two critical materials for the direct reduced iron (DRI) production that will be used to make near-zero emissions steel at its Boden plant.
Using green hydrogen and a fully electrified process, H2 Green Steel’s direct reduction of iron ore is said to achieve a carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction of up to 95% compared to conventional blast furnace steel making using coal and coke.
