Quest One: H-TEC rebrands and launches 5GW electrolyser production facility

H-TEC Systems will begin series production of PEM electrolyser stacks in September, following its rebranding to Quest One.

With its new identity, the company wants to underline its own sustainability goals: avoiding 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 through its own electrolysers, whilst contributing to climate protection.

In September, H-TEC will open its new production site in Hamburg, Germany, which will have a potential electrolysis capacity of over 5GW annually at full capacity. The German firm stated, “With the automation of production at the Gigahub, up to 75% of the current production time can be saved.”

Once developed, the stacks will be assembled at H-TEC’s site in Augsburg using the automotive assembly principle. H2 View understands the finished product will serve the US market, where the company is building local supply chains.

Commenting on the rebranding, Robin von Plettenberg, CEO of H-TEC Systems, claimed Quest One represents a “name that gets to the heart of our work.”

The CEO added, “We want to develop Quest One into one of the world’s largest manufacturers of electrolysers and help shape this ramp-up of the hydrogen economy.”

Uwe Lauber, CEO of MAN Energy Solutions, said, “When we acquired H-TEC Systems in 2019, the company had a start-up character: around 40 employees produced top-quality electrolysers in a manufacturing operation.

“Since then, the number of employees has increased more than tenfold and we are building the most modern stack production facility in Europe. Today, H-TEC Systems is a leading driver of the hydrogen transition, for which international business is also becoming increasingly important.”

The company’s new Gigahub will boast around 200 employees across production, development, testing and service. In Augsburg, a team of more than 350 will assemble the products.
