Provaris’ H2Neo carriers to deliver 42,500 tonnes of Nordic hydrogen to Uniper

Provaris Energy, Uniper Global Commodities and Norwegian Hydrogen have signed a conditional Term Sheet, paving the way for the supply of hydrogen from the Nordics to north-western Europe.

Under the agreed terms, an annual volume of 42,500 tonnes per year of renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO)-certified hydrogen will be delivered using Provaris’ H2Neo carriers.

German firm Uniper will buy the hydrogen, produced by Norwegian Hydrogen in Norway, at an agreed fixed price after signing a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) last August.

First cargo deliveries are targeted for early 2029, for a minimum term of 10 years, making it Europe’s first regional hydrogen marine transport project at scale.

The agreed Key Terms and Conditions to form the basis of negotiating a binding Hydrogen SPA is targeted for June 2025.

“This represents a key milestone for Provaris and validation towards developing regional bulk-scale hydrogen supply chains within Europe using Provaris’ H2NEO compressed hydrogen carriers,” explained Provaris’ Managing Director and CEO, Martin Carolan.

Benedikt Messner, Uniper Global Commodities’ Senior Vice-President – New Energies Origination, added, “We think that the innovative transport concept by Provaris might be a solution to connect commercially interesting hydrogen supply locations with our core markets and look forward to the continuation of our collaboration.”

Last April, the Australian company and Norwegian Hydrogen extended their collaboration and announced they would explore the development of hydrogen export facilities in the Nordics.

With export facilities strategically located in areas with grid connections and power supplies, they will use Provaris H2Neo carriers and H2Leo barges.
