Primetals Technologies has been selected by Blastr Green Steel to develop a 100% hydrogen-based direct reduced iron (DRI) plant in collaboration with Midrex Technologies.
The hydrogen DRI plant is set to support Blastr’s planned steel facility that is expected to produce 2.5 million tonnes of low-carbon steel per year in Inkoo, Finland.
The MIDREX H2 plant is expected to be powered by 100% green hydrogen and will produce hot DRI for direct charging to the steel mill, along with hot briquetted iron (HBI). This will enable Blastr to decarbonise other value chains by providing low-carbon iron to its customers.
