Precision Micro secures fuel cell component deal with German engineering firm

Fuel cell and electrolyser component provider Precision Micro has secured a series production deal with an unnamed German multinational engineering and technology company.

Under the agreement, Precision Micro will use its etching process to produce the bipolar plates, designed to facilitate the recirculation of unused hydrogen in a fuel cell.

The components will reportedly be used for a fuel cell vehicle powertrain.

H2 View understands that the production will follow a single-sourcing model, which Precision Micro will undertake in accordance with the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) 16949, throughout the product’s lifecycle.

“This partnership underscores the unique advantages of photochemical etching for the hydrogen sector and reflects our commitment to supporting innovative solutions for the future of mobility,” explained Markus Rettig, Sales Manager at Precision Micro Germany.

Last April, the UK-based company received new machinery to support the chemical etching of bipolar plates used in hydrogen electrolysers, fuel cells, storage solutions and more.

Coming as part of a £1.8m ($2.3m) investment, the company received new etching and stripping machines, as well as an automatic exposure unit, allowing large metal sheets to be etched in production volumes.
