Plug Power’s Louisiana hydrogen plant to become operational in Q1 2025

Plug Power has confirmed that its 15-tonne-per-day hydrogen plant in Louisiana, US, is on schedule for completion this quarter.

Located in St. Gabriel, the hydrogen plant is now entering the final commissioning phase.

Once complete, Plug and Olin Corporation’s 50/50 joint venture Hidrogenii will operate the plant, which utilises Olin’s by-product hydrogen from chlorine production, making it grey hydrogen.

A dry-out process is currently underway to remove moisture and impurities from the project’s systems to ensure high-purity hydrogen.

Once operational, Plug’s total liquid green hydrogen production capacity will increase to 39 tonnes per day.

Plug has said the Louisiana plant will support its plans to deliver hydrogen to key partners such as Amazon and Walmart.

Furthermore, Plug has said the facility has maintained a “strong safety record,” completing over 412,000 work hours with no injuries.

“Our team has executed hundreds of high-risk tasks without a single incident,” claimed Andy Marsh, Plug’s CEO.

Earlier this month, the US-based hydrogen producer introduced the “first-ever” spot pricing programme for liquid hydrogen, based on real-time supply and demand.
