Plug Power and Universal Hydrogen have strengthened their industry relationship as part of an effort to make green hydrogen cost-competitive with jet fuel by 2025.
The two companies yesterday (2nd March) announced the news which will see Universal Hydrogen complete the construction of a subscale aircraft powertrain by Q2 2021.
Following completion, the partnership will test the hydrogen fuel cell powertrain in a ground demonstration, before retrofitting it into a 40-60 passenger regional aircrafts.
It is hoped the first experimental flight will take place in 2023 and entry into revenue service will happen in 2025.
