Plans unveiled for major MEA facility in the US

Hyzon Motors has today (1st March) unveiled major plans to develop a fuel cell membrane electrode assembly (MEA) production line in Bolingbrook, Illinois, which once operational will be able to cover the production needs for up to 12,000 hydrogen-powered trucks a year.

Believed to be the largest facility of its type in the US, boasting 28,000 square feet of manufacturing space before expanding in a second phase of 80,000 square feet, Hyzon said it hopes the investment will create up to 50 full-time positions.

The facility is expected to commence production of MEAs in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Commenting on the company’s expansion, Hyzon’s Chairman and Co-Founder, George Gu, said, “The new Hyzon Innovation Centre is essential to our strategy to expand the US hydrogen supply chain, reduce fuel cell costs for commercialisation, and create local jobs.”
