Gasunie, Shell and Groningen Seaports are joining forces to build a mega offshore wind farm and hydrogen plant in Groningen, the Netherlands, the consortium has announced today.
Dubbed NortH2, the project plans to construct wind farms in the North Sea with a capacity of around 3 to 4GW of wind energy for hydrogen production before 2030, possibly growing to 10GW around 2040.
This would be sufficient to meet the current electricity consumption of around 12.5 million Dutch households, the consortium explained in a statement, and the first ones could be ready in 2027.
