A team of Pacific Northwest public and private organisations have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the development of what could be one of North America’s largest renewable hydrogen production facilities.
Planned to be developed in Eugene, Oregon, the facility will demonstrate how renewable and low-carbon electricity can be transformed into green hydrogen through the power-to-gas process.
Project partners Eugene Water & Electric Board, NW Natural and the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, will look to recreate existing models of successful power-to-gas installations and explore the utilisation of some hydrogen directly in fuel cells for backup electricity generation.
