Ovako is one step closer operating what it says will be the world’s first plant to use hydrogen to heat steel prior to rolling and hot forming, having today (Nov 25) received a 20MW electrolyser from Nel.
Back in September, the European manufacturer of engineering steel said it wants to achieve carbon neutrality through the implementation of hydrogen at its Hofors site in Sweden.
Today, this goal is one step closer to reality with the delivery of its €11m electrolyser which will produce both oxygen and hydrogen to be used in the steel-heating processes.
