Oman is on track to become one of the largest global hydrogen exporters by 2030 and could produce renewable hydrogen as cheaply as $1.6/kg, according to a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA).
The IEA report says Oman looks set to become the largest exporter of hydrogen in the Middle East this decade, and the sixth largest globally, according to its global assessment of announced hydrogen projects at the end of 2022,
Oman has targets to produce at least one million tonnes of renewable hydrogen by 2030, ramping up to 3.75 million tonnes by 2030 and 8.5 million by 2050, which the IEA says would make the energy carrier a “significant new source of export revenue.”
