Ohmium opens Abu Dhabi electrolyser service centre to boost green hydrogen uptime

Californian-headquartered PEM electrolyser maker Ohmium has opened a new service centre in Abu Dhabi to support local green hydrogen plant maintenance and expansion.

The centre is equipped to deliver fast repairs for its modular PEM electrolysers. These electrolysers are designed with “rack-in, rack-out functionality,” which allows the firm to remove individual bundles in the stack without disrupting the entire system.

Ohmium claims the centre can complete bundle repairs within hours and return them to customers in Abu Dhabi within three days – cutting turnaround times by four to five weeks.

The site will also have a local inventory of essential parts to support capacity expansions to cut potential bottlenecks.

“The success of our customers in the UAE is a top priority,” Ohmium CEO, Arne Ballantine said. “By investing in this local centre, we provide resources to help them achieve higher production uptime and scale their projects efficiently.”

In 2023, Ohmium said it would supply its electrolysers to support an R&D programme with Emirates Steel Arkan (ESA) and Khalifa University looking to accelerate green hydrogen’s use in the steel sector.

The company has focused its manufacturing expansion on India and opened a new 2GW factory near Bengaluru in 2024.
