Nu:ionic, RW Energy to install hydrogen production technologies at US energy parks

Nu:ionic Technologies and RW Energy have agreed to implement hydrogen production and carbon capture technologies into energy parks located across the US.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), RW Energy will oversee project identification, facility design and business development, while Nu:ionic will supply the low-carbon hydrogen production equipment.

The partnership is expected to combine Nu:ionic’s teal hydrogen production equipment, the Nu-X Smart ReformerSM and integrated carbon capture. Together, they will produce high-purity hydrogen and cryogenic liquid by-product CO2 as industrial grade, which can be transported for sequestration or utilisation.

H2 View understands that, once installed, the process could produce between 1.2 and six tonnes of hydrogen a day at each site.

Strategic locations for the initial fleet of low-carbon hydrogen projects are anticipated to be in north California, the Gulf Coast of Texas and Ohio. They were selected due to existing infrastructure, market demand and regulatory environment.

“The use of Nu:ionic’s technology enables RW Energy to integrate renewable resources into methane-based hydrogen production and offers a cost-effective and near-term pathway to low-carbon energy solutions,” explained Darin Knicely, CEO of RW Energy.

Jon Boshoff, CEO at Nu:ionic, added, “Nu-X is available today, and our collaboration with RW Energy provides an opportunity to deliver Nu:ionic’s unique value proposition of low-carbon hydrogen solutions at truly distributed production capacity to multiple US locations.”

Last month (August), Nu:ionic and HybriGenix Futures agreed to construct a new gas turbine power plant that could be powered by low-carbon hydrogen blends produced from an electrified steam methane reforming (SMR) process.

Located in Alberta, Canada, the companies will initially install two 25MW hydrogen-ready power generation units.
