It’s a big week for energy in Germany – and bigger two years ahead, as the European economic powerhouse seeks to ramp up hydrogen and other clean energy technologies.
The country’s three remaining nuclear reactors will shut down on Saturday, bringing an end to years of controversy and nuclear power generation in Europe’s largest economy.
Germany’s security of supply “is and will be assured” despite the nuclear exit, according to Economy Minister Robert Habeck.
But it doesn’t end question marks over energy supplies and security – amid a precarious regional and international geopolitical and economic climate – and complicates Germany’s path towards climate neutrality.
