Norwegian Government offers €6m for development of floating ammonia terminal

Finnish technology group Wärtsilä and Norway’s Höegh LNG, alongside other partners, have received €5.9m from the Norwegian Government to develop a floating ammonia terminal to support hydrogen imports.

Designed to enhance the availability of large-scale storage and transportation capabilities, the project is hoped to enable ammonia to be converted back into hydrogen at receiving destinations.

The partners aim to develop a system to convert ammonia back into hydrogen, which will be installed on a Höegh LNG vessel, which is intended to provide a floating terminal, capable of being relocated as needed, reducing the use of coastal land, while reducing costs and improving safety.
