Nikola hopes to have its hydrogen-powered Nikola Tre FCEV Cabover on North American roads by 2023, with its Nikola Two FCEV Sleeper following the same path shortly after in 2024.
The Arizona-based company today (23rd Feb) confirmed the news as part of its North American Fuel Cell Vehicle Program which states that after Tre battery-electric vehicle launch, it will focus on hydrogen fuel cell innovations.
In addition to the trucks, Nikola confirmed that it will continue to focus on common fuel cell power modules and scalable hydrogen storage systems, both of which are currently in development and testing with industry leaders in collaboration with Nikola Engineering,
“To expedite the transition to a carbon-free future, the trucking industry needs heavy-duty, zero emission commercial vehicles engineered to match the weight and range capabilities of today’s diesel trucks,” said Nikola’s Global Head of FCEV Jason Roycht.
