New partnership formed to produce green hydrogen in France

A cooperation agreement to develop the “HyGreen Provence” project which aims to produce, store and distribute green hydrogen has been signed by Air Liquide, the Durance, Luberon, Verdon urban area (DLVA) and ENGIE.

Initiated in 2017, “HyGreen Provence” will develop and validate conditions suitable for the production of 1,300 GWh of solar electricity, together with the production of renewable hydrogen on an industrial scale through water electrolysis.

The hydrogen produced for the project will be used in the mobility, energy and industry sectors both locally and regionally. In the future, the project has potential to produce several tens of thousands of metric tonnes of renewable hydrogen every year.

“We are pleased to contribute to this flagship project, which will demonstrate, in France, on an industrial scale, the key role that hydrogen will play in the energy transition,” said Guy Salzgeber, Executive Vice-President and member of the Air Liquide Group’s Executive Committee supervising industrial merchant, hydrogen and innovation.
