Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) and Murihiku Hapu of Ngāi Tahu have joined forces to assess the development of a large-scale renewable green hydrogen project in Southland, New Zealand – and they want it to be operational by 2025.
The duo today (August 3) said they have joined forces on the effort, having inked a collaboration agreement which will see them collaborate on what they believe could be the world’s first large scale green hydrogen facilities powered by existing and new renewable energy.
Although project plans are already super ambitions, the development remains subject to an initial assessment process and an investment decision by the Board of Fortescue Metals Group Ltd and New Zealand Investor Boards.
