New Air Liquide CO2 capture unit will deliver ‘significantly decarbonised’ hydrogen

Air Liquide plans to equip its existing grey hydrogen plant in the Port of Rotterdam with a carbon capture unit to deliver “significantly decarbonised” hydrogen.

The French industrial gas major said it would build, own and operate a “world-scale” carbon capture unit at its plant in the Port of Rotterdam. CO2 will be transported through the Porthos infrastructure and stored under the North Sea.

Porthos – a joint venture between EVN, Gasunie and Port of Rotterdam Authority – will use depleted gas fields around 20km off the Dutch coast for permanent storage, three to four kilometres under the seabed.
