MTU Aero Engines is developing a Flying Fuel Cell™ (FFC) concept, which converts liquid hydrogen into electrical energy, to be used in the aviation sector.
Taking place in Munich, Germany, the concept will involve a high-efficiency electric motor driving the propeller, which can be utilised upon shorter commuter and regional flights, planned for 2025.
The company’s subsidiary, eMoSys, is designing the electric motor for the project, designed for a continuous output of 600kW and a performance density of 15kW per kg.
