MSC Group’s cruise division has ordered two vessels for its luxury travel brand Explora Journeys from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri featuring liquid hydrogen and fuel cell technology.
The two vessels will look to use liquid hydrogen with fuel cells for their hotel operations while docked imports to eliminate carbon emissions while the vessels’ engines are not running.
Set to be propelled by engines fuelled with liquified natural gas (LNG), the companies hope to significantly reduce NOx, SOx and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
