MOL Group has invested €22m ($23m) into what is expected to be the “largest” green hydrogen plant in central and eastern Europe, set to be operational this year.
Located in Száhalombatta near Budapest, Hungary, the 10MW plant will be capable of producing 1,600 tonnes of green hydrogen per year.
Using Plug Power electrolyers, MOL will partially replace the existing natural gas usage at the Danube Refinery and reduce its fuel emissions by 25,000 tonnes. Hydrogen generators have also been provided by Plug to optimise the production of pure hydrogen.
