MOL Group has revealed a new agreement with Plug Power aiming to develop one of Europe’s “largest-capacity” green hydrogen production facilities in Hungary.
The project will incorporate a 10MW Plug Power electrolyser unit with an overall expected cost of around €22m. In doing so the facility will be capable of producing around 1,600 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.
Once operational in 2023, MOL is expected to use the green hydrogen in its Danube Refinery during fuel production of its own hydrogen system. It will be incorporated into the molecules of MOL fuels, lowering the carbon outputs from the production technology and the final product.
