Mitsubishi Corporation is planning to invest $690m to build a green hydrogen production plant in the Netherlands, according to reports.
Nikkei Asia first reported, Mitsubishi will develop one of the “world’s largest” green hydrogen projects, expected to have a capacity of 80,000 tonnes annually.
The production will be handled by Eneco Diamond Hydrogen, a joint venture (JV) between Mitsubishi and Eneco, with construction anticipated to begin in 2026 and the start of hydrogen production in 2029.
Eneco will utilise the electricity generated at its offshore wind farm in the Netherlands to produce the hydrogen. The hydrogen will then be sold through its retail electricity sales network and supplied to manufacturing and power business in Europe using pipelines.
