Messer, Virya Energy, Hyoffgreen take FID on 25MW hydrogen plant

Messer and its partners have reached the Final Investment Decision (FID) for a 25MW green hydrogen production plant in Zeebrugge, Belgium.

Expected to produce its first molecules of hydrogen in 2026, the Hyoffwind project will be led by Virya Energy, Messer and Hyoffgreen. Messer and Hyoffgreen entered the initiative following the appointment of John Cockerill and Besix as EPC partners earlier this year.

H2 View understands that upon completion, the plant will have the capacity to scale up to 100MW. Zeebrugge was chosen due to its strategic location, being well connected to relevant energy networks.

Due to its location in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, the plant will become a “strategic component” for the future hydrogen network, connecting production sites and industrial zones in northwest Europe.
