German transportation company Südwestdeutsche Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft (SWEG) has signed a letter of intent for its Mercedes-Benz eCitaro buses to be equipped with a fuel cell.
The fuel cell will generate electricity from hydrogen while driving, therefore extending the buses range.
“Our company has always been a pioneer in the fiel of new and sustainable forms of mobility. That is why we would also like to gain experience on site in the field of hydrogen technology,” said Tobais Harms, future CEO of SWEG.
“The eCitaro with a fuel cell is another milestone in the development of environmentally friendly city buses. We are delighted that our partner SWEG has chosen this advanced technology,” said Ulrich Bastert, Head of Marketing, Sales and Customer Services at Daimler Buses.
