McDermott selected for FEED study on Canadian hydrogen and ammonia project

McDermott will provide its delivery and installation expertise to a green hydrogen and ammonia production project in Central Newfoundland, Canada.

The Abraxas Power Corporation’s Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC) project, worth $8.7bn,  is expected to be capable of producing 165kta of hydrogen and 5,000 tonnes of ammonia per day.

Under an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) agreement, McDermott will lead the front-end engineering design (FEED) study, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services, and open book EPC cost estimate for hydrogen production, ammonia processing, and product storage of the project.

The project will include the development of up to 530-turbine wind farms that can generate 3.5GW of electricity and 150MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) power.
