Masdar, Mitsubishi Chemical Group (MCG) and INPEX CORPORATION are set to explore the commercial-scale production of polypropylene made from carbon dioxide (CO2) and green hydrogen in Abu Dhabi.
The partners will look to utilise green hydrogen and CO2 to create e-methanol, which will subsequently be converted to propylene and polypropylene, a type of plastic material used in everyday items such as bottles, jars and food packaging.
Under an agreement, Masdar, MCG and INPEX will assess the techno-economic feasibility of a commercial-scale plant for the conversion of the fuels to plastic.
