Freeport East will receive £1.44m ($1.8m) to develop green hydrogen technology for high-powered workboats using low-carbon storage and propulsion.
The Hydrogen Zero Emission Maritime (HyZEM) project secured funding from Innovate UK and will receive a similar sum from Australia’s Department of Climate Change, Energy and Environment and Water.
Freeport East facilitated the partnership, which also includes UK and Australian businesses specialising in green hydrogen storage and propulsion technologies, with the goal of reducing the risks of deployment of new technologies in the green marine sector.
