Luxfer Gas Cylinders and Hypermotive have announced that they will offer an automated hydrogen, storage and filling solution, aimed at lowering the barrier to entry for hydrogen supply.
Under the joint effort, Hypermotive will develop a digital control system for pressurised hydrogen gas storage based on its SYSTEM-H Technology for use with Luxfer’s G-Stor® Hydrophere multi-element gas container (MEGC).
Set to use analytics to monitor deliveries, the two firms hope the solution will reduce operational complexity and cost to lower the barrier to entry of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and suppliers.
Adam Huckstep, CEO of Hypermotive, said the development would be an exciting step for the companies and the wider hydrogen industry.
“Our combined expertise will enable the hydrogen sector to build infrastructure and accelerate the wider adoption of zero-emission technologies by reducing the cost and complexity of delivering hydrogen to where it’s needed,” he stressed.
Nick Herbert, Sales and Marketing Director at Luxfer Gas Cylinders Europe, added, “Luxfer and Hypermotive share a strong focus on innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction, and we are thrilled to be working together on this industry-leading solution.”
Speaking to H2 View, Jonathan Brown, Hypermotive’s Strategy Director, said the joint offering will allow end-users such as mobility OEMs to integrate hydrogen storage systems into vehicle platforms more easily.
“Our technologies will simplify the integration of that and add a lot of clever management to those systems to enhance performance and efficiency.”
Based on its Type 4 cylinder technology, Luxfer’s Hydrosphere MEGC was released in June to support hydrogen transportation across virtual gas pipelines.

Available in both 20ft and 40ft units, the MEGC was slated to store and transport one tonne of hydrogen.
Hypermotive, which launched in 2016, last month unveiled a hydrogen fuel cell power system designed for maritime applications with Honda, using its SYSTEM-X technology.
