Hydrogen Europe has said the low subsidy rates awarded by the European Hydrogen Bank’s (EHB) pilot auction were expected.
On Tuesday (April 30), the European Commission revealed seven projects that would gain some €720m ($767m) in renewable hydrogen production subsidies.
It came as the first auction under the EHB, which had been given a ceiling price of €4.5/kg ($4.79) of hydrogen produced to close the price gap with unabated fossil-produced hydrogen. However, the winning bids secured subsidies of €0.37-0.48/kg ($0.39-0.48).
