Local council approves Meld’s £250m green hydrogen hub in the Humber

Meld Energy has received the green light for its 100MW green hydrogen production facility at Saltend Chemicals Park in Hull, UK.

The Meld Energy Green Hydrogen Hub is expected to bring more than £180m ($230m) of investment to Humber Freeport, with work set to begin in 2026 ahead of full operations in 2028.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council approved the £250m ($319m) initiative, which will replace the use of grey hydrogen and fossil fuels at the facility and is anticipated to produce 13,400 tonnes of hydrogen per year, using the region’s abundant onshore and offshore renewable power.
