Oman’s Sultan Qaboos Port today (August 16) received the ‘world’s first’ liquid hydrogen tanker, the Suiso Frontier, as part of the Japanese vessel’s programme to visit a number of Middle Eastern countries.
Manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industries and now operated by Shell, the Suiso Frontier transports up to 8,000 tonnes of liquid hydrogen at temperatures of -253oC. In February 2022, the ship transported its first load of liquid hydrogen from Australia to Japan.
