Lhyfe delivers green hydrogen to salt cavern storage project

Lhyfe has delivered 350kg of green hydrogen to Géométhane to be used in a salt cavern storage test in France.

The hydrogen was injected into salt caverns at the Manosque site in the south of France on June 13, taking just a day to complete the injection.

The salt cavern test represents the next stage of a major project led by the DLVAaggIo urban community and Géométhane, which is aiming to accelerate the decarbonisation of the Marseille-Fos-Sur-Mer industrial site.

Lhyfe’s hydrogen was injected into the system, which uses natural gas, and will remain there for observation for several weeks before being extracted and analysed. Lhyfe’s CEO and Founder, Matthieu Guesné, claimed the initiative will provide initial feedback for the project.

He added, “We are proud to be contributing to this trial, which demonstrates the extent of the possibilities offered by hydrogen, not only in terms of decarbonising mobility and industry but also in terms of energy storage, which is a necessary component of our energy independence.

“As more and more sites begin to produce green hydrogen, the question of storage will become central. The use of salt caverns is a serious option being considered all over Europe.”

In April, Lhyfe launched its platform designed for buying and selling green-certified hydrogen via its online portal, Lhyfe Heroes.

Once established, the system will be available to all hydrogen buyers needing deliveries to fuel stations or logistics centres. New features will be coming over the coming months.
