Lhyfe and Fives target industrial decarbonisation with hydrogen combustion

Lhyfe has partnered with industrial engineering firm Fives to design solutions for the supply and use of green hydrogen in industrial combustion processes.

The “complete decarbonised offer” is slated to facilitate the use of hydrogen in process industries, without the need to modify all equipment.

Set to focus on European and North American metal, glass and cement industries, in addition to some selected industrial heating processes, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the pair will combine Lhyfe’s green hydrogen production capabilities and Fives’ hydrogen burners.

The two companies have said hydrogen combustion has emerged as “one of the most promising solutions” for cutting emissions from industry by replacing natural gas use.

Frédéric Thrum, Deputy General Manager of Fives and President of the Energy Division, said the company’s combustion systems are developed to “reduce the environmental impact of our customers around the world.”

In 2023, the firm launched its first 100% hydrogen duct burners which it said could replace existing fossil fuel burners.

“We are proud to be partnering with Lhyfe, to respond together to the urgency of climate change and make industrial processes more sustainable and efficient,” he added.

Lhyfe founder and CEO, Matthieu Guesné, said, “We are in a pivotal period in the industrial sector and in particular in industrial combustion.

“After several years of development, hydrogen solutions are now mature and available on the market regionwide.”
