Leipzig Group joins HYPOS

The Leipzig Group has joined the HYPOS network, a consortium striving to establish a model region for hydrogen in Germany.

Working towards its decarbonisation goals, Leipzig is currently building a low emission gas turbine power plant which it hopes will soon be able to utilise green hydrogen.

“Green hydrogen is the key energy carrier of the future. It can be generated from renewable energies, transported and stored in the gas network and converted back into electricity and heat. Material recycling in mobility or the chemical industry is also possible,” said Dr. Joachim Wicke, CEO of HYPOS.

“As number one in the periodic table and the lightest element, hydrogen represents 75% of the total mass or 93% of all atoms in the solar system. In order for the energy transition to succeed, the use of this element will become increasingly important,” said Karsten Rogall, Managing Director of the Leipzig Group.
