Swiss-based energy storage company, Leclanché is set to supply advanced battery technology for a Canadian Pacific (CP) hydrogen locomotive project.
Leclanché will supply its exclusive lithium-ion batteries in addition to its energy management software that will be integrated into the fuel cell modules that will power the locomotive.
The project, led by CP, will equip a diesel freight train with hydrogen cells and lithium-ion batteries to power the electric motor with the project designed to assess the suitability of the combined technologies for use in the rail freight sector.
