LEAG and ESS announce German clean energy hub plans

LEAG and ESS have agreed to develop a clean energy hub for Germany, including 2GW of hydrogen production.

In 2027 to two companies will commission a 50MW iron flow battery system at the Boxberg Power Plant site, to accelerate the energy transition through the deployment of renewable generation and long-duration energy storage (LDES) using ESS’ iron flow battery technology.

LEAG and its partners will invest £200m ($253m) into the project and plan to develop 7-14GW of renewable generation paired with 2-3GWh of energy storage and 2GW of green hydrogen production.
