Landmark project could produce one million tonnes of green hydrogen a year by 2035

Plans to create 10GW of offshore wind capacity in the German North Sea for the production of green hydrogen have been unveiled by new association AquaVentus.

AquaVentus’ lighthouse project will install wind turbines in the North Sea between Heligoland and the Dogger Bank sandbank by 2035.

The wind power from this will be used to produce up to one million tonnes of green hydrogen a year, which will then be transported to land via a pipeline.

27 companies, research institutions and innovative organisations, including RWE, Shell, Siemens Gamesa and Vattenfall, make up the AquaVentus association.
